Pulled it out of the tower and could actually see the blown transistors on the board inside. Contacted the place I bought it from to start an RMA. Looks like it’s going to be out for a little bit.

Sadpanda ensues…….

Dropping this here for later. Good web design reads to be had.

There’s some good stuff in there.

My mother has been in and out of the hospital over the past two months because of some health issues that were unknown until now. First it was a heart attack, then it was a stroke, then it was COPD, and on and on. Which leads me to my first revelation:

Doctors are generally idiots.

Now, they tell us that she has scleroderma, which is not cool. Basically, it means that your immune system thinks your body’s tissue needs to be dealt with and attacks it. Pair that with the fact that it causes your internal organs to harden and you have some serious issues.

This time, she had to be put into an induced coma for some reason (my father tells me she tried to fight the doctor because he apparently just jammed the breathing tube down her throat). So she’s sedated, restrained, and in critical care. Awesome (sarcasm for those who weren’t aware).

It was at this point during her stay that I came to my next revelation:

At least nine out of ten people working in hospitals are uncaring and rude.

Everyone in my family is concerned for my mothers well being. When we have a valid question about something, we shouldn’t have to call my aunt (who works there) to find out what’s going on which is what has been happening. What if it were one of their loved ones that was in that position? How would they feel if that’s the way they were treated?

I think that’s one of the biggest reasons why my aunt and my mother (who used to work at the hospital) are probably the most awesome nurses ever to grace the floors of that hospital. I’ve seen both of them working with the patients and their families and they’ve always gone above and beyond to comfort them and keep in the loop.

I wish more of the employees were like that.

52 Weeks of UX: How to Identify the Best Design Problems

Escher Waterfall

One of the core principles of UX is to solve existing problems, or problems that people are already struggling with. While this might not be as glamorous as inventing a brand new thing it is more practical: it makes identifying problems easier and people are much more receptive to your…

I’ve been putting this off for far too long. Today, I am going to start actually making an attempt to create an online presence for my design work. I’ve said this many times before and never really made an attempt to follow through.

In the past, I’ve always used the “I work a day job I don’t have time for this” angle and just let things go. So, there it is. Expect more rambling nonsense, more pictures that don’t make sense, and other random things.

I promise.
